June 2005

We have a graduate in the family. Buddy graduated from Puppy Kindergarten at Paws University. He received a diploma and a doggie lei made of dog biscuits and a tennis ball. He starts basic obedience on July 30. The first class is just for the owners. I guess they want to see if we are trainable. It is doubtful. Buddy has some days when he listens very well and other days when he is so bad. He does sit, down, stay, come (when he feels like it), shake and roll over. I baked him dog treats. Todd thinks I am nuts since I used every one of my cookie cutters. I like baking and since they are dog treats, I am not tempted to eat them. Although, Todd tried them and said they were pretty good.

This month, we had Honna, Bob and their two kids stay in the house. In the apartment, we had Rick and Myronna from Texas. They were enjoying a family reunion on the island with friends of ours. We also had Melody, Sam, Bonnie and Cassidy from Tennessee in the apartment. When I asked the little girl, Cassidy what she liked best about her Hawaiian vacation, she said shopping. It is especially nice when someone else pays for the stuff.

We are all very sad that the lychee trees are done fruiting. They were so ono (delicious). Just the other night Todd and I ate our first custard apple. It was terrific. It was like no other apple I have ever had. It is very soft in the center and extremely sweet. We also ate our first cherimoya. It was also very good. It looks similar to a soursop inside, but it is more mild than a soursop. Our lime trees are fruiting again.

Todd and I pruned the Kona (sour) orange trees in the coffee orchard near the pool. They are very thorny trees that spread. It will be better for Todd when he has to cut the grass in that orchard. We continue to prune the coffee trees. In fact, we even picked a little coffee. Todd finished fixing his coffee pulper. He did a really nice job. It runs smoothly, at a good speed and is mounted on a safe table. Todd is installing outdoor lighting near our apartment. Buddy thoroughly enjoyed eating the low voltage wiring. Lucky for him, it wasn't plugged in. In the same day, the power hungry dog ate a pair of jumper cables. Todd completed the lava rock path to our lanai. He also acquired more materials needed for fixing the lanai roof.

There were several birthdays this month. Happy Birthday to my mom. We can't wait to see you and dad. It is less than a month away. Happy Birthday to our niece, Sarah and Happy Birthday to my friend Kristin. Happy Father's Day to our two fantastic dads. Sorry your cards were so late. They were on Hawaiian Time. We are also looking forward to camping this Fourth of July. This will be the first time I have been camping since I was very young. We are going to have so much stuff that I am not sure there will be room for us in the car.
